Thrifty Thursday... Cheap Traditional Knives

Here is my cheapo Italian work knife:

Mine is carbon steel and not so broad across the back. The wood was about the same color as yours, but I stained it. It gets used quite a bit for projects around the house, the punch more than the blade even.
I like that one! Punch, screwdriver and a nice spear blade. Good stuff

No "RR" number Rough Rider "Rifleman" series 6 (six) blade Stockman with checkered bone covers.

I've seen lots of "half whittlers", but I rarely see a "double stockman" like that! 😲 🤓
Quite a fistful of blades!:cool:

Here is a chunky sucker for the thrifty Thursday.

CEM sheepsfoot from Italy. Nice blade shape and size. 3/4" tall x 3 1/8" long. Stainless. Looks like about 3/32" stock but I'm using a yardstick so it's somewhere under 1/8 and over 1/16

Handle is about 4" long but then we have the handle thickness. This thing is every bit of an inch thick! I want to sand the sides flat everytime I pick it up but I'm not sure how that pivot is put together. The wood is very nice, some sort of rosewood.

Overall its a good one if you like a thicker handle! Definitely built as a utility knife.

Good to see that one!:thumbsup: I have a CEM sheepsfoot, but mine has a carbon steel blade and the website says the handle is bubinga. I like the knife a lot (which is true of most of my knives with a big sheepsfoot blade)! The handle is definitely chunky, but that makes it feel great in my hand (not so great in my pocket). The handle on mine is a little bit asymmetric - when I lay it down on its side (don't remember if it's mark or pile side), it always rolls over onto its back. I've tried to order another one as a gift, but they sent me one with a pruner blade. When I arranged to return that to get what I actually ordered, they sent back the pruner again (I'm pretty sure they sent me the exact same pruner that I returned). So I just took a refund at that point. Maybe I should try my luck again.

Looks like a nice Antonini, Tom.:cool:

Hi GT

It is a very sturdy knife! I like it a lot. If I had seen an option for carbon steel it would have been the preferred choice, but there are not many options to be found it seems. The covers are definitely asymmetrical but gives it a good handle!

The pruner looks like a good tool as well. It may be bubinga wood and not rosewood. It has a really neat grain pattern and a sheen that I've not seen before.

Rick, I agree that the pruner they sent me was a solid knife, just like the sheepsfoot, but I just haven't found many uses for a pruner blade myself. Here's a photo of my CEM sheepsfoot when it was almost new. It has much more patina now, since I keep it in the kitchen and use it for food prep at least once a week.

These are great knives. It's a larger Klein sheepsfoot. More like a rope knife size as opposed to the smaller coping knife. It seems to be out of production but not hard to find.

This is the third one. One has new purple heart covers and the lock removed. One is about halfway done in Walnut. This is the third, a project for a rainy day I grabbed because the blade wasn't rounded on the end.
