My mother asked for a knife to keep in her purse. Pretty, not too big, with a stainless blade. I was thinking of giving her a small Laguiole, but her fingers aren't as strong or sure as they used to be, so probably not a great idea due to its strong spring. Hmmm...🤔

What about a Sauveterre?

Looks good, but don't rule out the Opinel No.6 in various woods......

I considered that, but I'm wary of the blade opening up in her purse. I may give her one eventually, but I'd have to get her a leather pouch to keep it in first.

I think it important that she have a knife immediately. I was a bit chagrined my own mother had to ask for one. I felt so remiss that I almost relinquished my knife nut certification.

😬
Such a stunner. You're acquiring some impressive sheepsfoot knives. We need to figure out a way to get you the new pin-up Son of Douk Douk.

Unless you want a Carbone blade. Those are only available in the standard Beechwood. 🥺

I asked Opinel if the fancy woods were available with carbone blades, for those of us who prefer that blade steel.
Their answer: "Rossfre blades only. The other woods stain carbone blades." 🙄

(most strange. I've bever noticed carbon steel fixed blade knives with various wood handles (none with Beechwood, BTW) with tangs stained/patina'd by the wood.)

kamagong kamagong No risk of an Opinel opening up if it has its locking collar turned left when the blade closed :)

Might not be the prettiest of knives though...but light and easy to handle.

If you weren't in a rush I'd send you a candidate she would likely enjoy. However, you may have to look at CASE knives for a suitable candidate: stainless, not large, attractive scales. CASE Swayback Gent is a tidy option, but then the Quill knife type Teardrop with Wharncliffe or Spear, Barehead or End capped is a fine option too. Light pull and snap on that pattern.

Thanks, Will
