I wasn't trying to make this a pit bull thread. The pro & anti pit bull debate is another polarizing subject with endless debate.
My point was that having a protective dog, just like carrying a weapon, is not without risks and subject to all sorts of owner related training and judgement too.
The best post, in my opinion, is to carry the same protection you would carry in the rest of your daily activities, not tool up for potential dog attacks. If you feel you are at an enhanced risk when walking your dog, it's the same as staying out of risky places when you frequent in your other activities. I don't go places when carrying a gun that I wouldn't go without having one.
