What did you rehang today?

The grain looks pretty good in that one. The replacement might not be so nice.
Yeah i was surprised actually. 3 out of the 5 had good grain. The other side has a couple of small knotts, That combined with it being mostly heartwood was enough to covince them that it shouldn't have passed quality control and to send me a replacement.
Ill always at least try to get a replacement with online ordered handles if i feel they aren't the quality i paid for. Works sometimes and they most often don't care to have the bad one sent back.

Did I read your using Link handles? Are you ordering them online direct from Link?
Thanks:cool:

I hung one Collins yesterday and the "superior" Connecticut today. The previous owner "cleaned" it as you can see. The connie is hung on the handle it came on. The grain was very good and its an old one. Slender with a nice fawns foot. The Collins i hung on a snow and neally handle that came off another boys axe.

Very tight!

Please tell more about your Superior Connecticut.

Great looking connie sir!

Getting them through an online retailer called bicwarehouse they sell on their site and ebay. They're US based but do free postage to australia, at least on ebay and seem pretty easy to deal with.

Thanks for sharing that. I use Link replacements but need to shop around sometimes upto 4 hardware stores here in my state, and still may come up with zip.
Appreciate their may be another avenue, I have yet to pull the trigger ordering handles online.

Not a problem. Their site only ships within the US (Free shipping over $45) but will be doing international soon. Waiting until then to order some more as the AU ebay page doesn't do most of the handles. They're fairly cheap on there to.
I can't get double bit handles over here unless i shop online and even then the price is 80 to 100 AUDo_O (Add 30% for USD) compared to their 38 AUD. I could get a double bit with a handle shipped here for that. Yeah i think ill wait :(. Don't fell like getting voluntarily robbed.

Rise, i just want to say I am not being sarcastic in this question at all. But are double bits not common in AU? I know there are a lot of the Connie type axes. I heard you mention the Tasmanian pattern being everywhere out there.... I would be interested in seeing some of those!! Thanks

Double bits were never sold or made here. all that are here have been brought over by individuals not commercially.
Ill be adding a couple more tassies to my collextion next week just have to go pick them up. A worlds finest dandenong and a wax 001 kelly. Already have the wax003 the 002 is proving difficult to find its essentially just a post dandenong dandenong with a different stamp. Will post in followed me home when i get them.

I think it is a Rogers as well. I remember reading that Warren used that name too even after they acquired the company. The fella i got it from took the mushrooming off the pole and also the name. I'm sill investigating. I'll post more tomorrow after more digging In to it . Oh and thank you! I try to get every one hung as perfectly as possible!

I would appreciate learning anything you could share that you have learned about Rogers.
I have personally found very little, for example I had not found that Warren had acquired Rogers.
Any idea when that was?

Yours is very nice too! I have to apologize, and hope to be forgiven.... I spread misinformation!! I mis- remembered the info. It was the Romer axe co. That was absorbed by Warren. Not Rogers. However, Romer and then Warren also made superior axes evidently. I'm still hunting for info. Hard to find any about that company. All i find is WM Rogers silver plate stuff. Again i apologize for that. There's so many yahoos around that'll just say anything to sound smart and I'm really not of them. I'll do some more digging and see what i come up with. Perhaps someone else already knows? Maybe we could start a thread about the company? Does yours say F4 under the poll near the weight stamp? I think mine says F0. It would be neat to figure out what that meant. Temperer?

I will look more closely tonight, but I believe it is either P4 or F4.
It's an elusive company that began in the 19th century and ended in the mid 20th...I believe in the mid to late 60's...as so many axe manufacturers did fizzle out, phase out or get absorbed.

Check this thread out too...

Good job on the handle work it came out great. I need to learn how to shape a swell like that on my link replacements. The factory swell is not the prettiest thing.

Thank you. This one had a decent swell just needed refinement...all over:D
...and yes, I agree the swells sometimes look like they were turning the stick to make a golf club then got caught and had to stop...lol!

What a gorgeous fire axe! And a beautiful handle too. Pics are the best. And thank you for sharing what you've gleaned regarding Rogers co. Info is sadly very scarce about them. Which i find odd considering how long they were around. Does anyone have the Thomas Lamond book regarding Connecticut axe manufacturers and purveyors? I might just have to get a copy.
