"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Nobody's impressed I have a 12" Russell Green River chef's knife?

Is there room to mount them on the inside of the cupboard doors? The sharp edges are facing inwards anyway, so it looks good to me.
Rover was great. I think my favorite Prisoner episode is Hammer into Anvil.
Rover was scary when I watched as a kid. First it's a silly balloon, and then it smothers you!
I'd watch this if it were an Olympic sport:

I remember finding that a terrifying concept when I first read 1984 as a kid  Mind you, I still find it terrifying o_O
It is. Remember when only little kids and crazy people thought the TV was watching them back? Now we all know it's true.

It is. Remember when only little kids and crazy people thought the TV was watching them back? Now we all know it's true.
Yeah, now I'm going to get loads of 1984 stuff popping up in my YouTube feed, targeted ads, etc! o_O

As an aside, I was giving a talk to some second year university students some years ago, and I used the phrase 'Kafkaesque'. They all looked at me blankly, so I tried to explain, using the word 'Orwellian', which they also didn't understand. I began to tell them about George Orwell and the book. When I said 'Big Brother', it seemed like I was finally getting somewhere, but they thought I was referencing some stupid reality TV series o_O

No room inside the cupboards, and thank you for your vote of confidence.
Rover had a great roar as he was bubbling up.
I don't remember that Number 2. I'll have to get out my cassette.
I thought the awfullest thing in 1984 was "Do it to Julia, not to me!" Mind you, the face-eating rat was awful enough.

I am! I've never seen racks like that I don't think. I have a long magnetic rack, which is kind of crammed with 17 knives (I have a second rack, but I'm unsure where to put it)
I remember finding that a terrifying concept when I first read 1984 as a kid  Mind you, I still find it terrifying o_O

The racks are by Imperial, made in Canada. They must not have been very successful, because I got ten of them for something like 29 cents each from the Tennessee catalogue store 40 or 50 years ago. They have metal jaws pinching the blade with springs, and I was afraid they would scratch my blades, but they didn't scratch the extra knives I was storing in them, so I thought I'd use them to bring up some more knives.

My wife and I spent 5 days in NYC last week. It's something we try to do every November, just before the Christmas season really starts. This year we met some friends that live in Maine. An old Air Force buddy of mine and his wife. He was my best man, I was his. We're Godparents to each other's children. Long time friendship...40+ years. It was his 70th birthday and he just retired. We always stay right near Times Square.
Anyway, it was his first time in NYC since he was 14 years old. We did a whirlwind tour of things we loved and things they wanted to see. In the 5 days we managed to walk 27 miles and we threw more 20 dollar bills at cab drivers then we care to count.
Here's some pics from my smartphone. I also had a camera with me but I still need to export the pics to my PC.
I had my new precious, my 2011 Case-Bose Coffin Jack with me. It did spend some time in the hotel room, as many places we visited required security screening. Here's a pic from my breakfast this morning, just in case anyone hasn't seen my gift from Charlie, Paul, Mike, Duncan, Neal and Dave. Thanks again guys!

We visited the Intrepid Aircraft Carrier Museum. It was my first time on a Carrier, holy cow what a ship! My Uncle served on one during WWII. We also took a tour of the submarine Growler which was part of the museum. Here's a pic of the periscope view taken on my smartphone. Pretty cool.

Sorry for the long post. I figured those that may have never visited would get a kick out seeing some images. Well worth the trip if you get the chance!

I was happy to have my Coffin jack along!:)

Pretty sad.
They probably have no problems with the telescreen.
And I don't either, because I'm innocent of everything and have nothing to hide!

As did everyone I think Jer :( It must be a couple of decades since I last read it, but I've read it many times, and it was just as grim each time

My last (and sole) visit dates back to '67, 19- that is. I can see that the adverts have changed since in Time Square! :D

I have been there a number of times over the last five years or so. Although Times Square is a zoo, that is primarily due to the flood of tourists and gawkers in the square. All of the interactions I had in New York City were marked by kindness and courtesy. It is crowded and it is busy for sure but my experiences were all positive.

The city and the people have an undeserved bad reputation.
