CPK EDC2

Could this be the last of the EDC's? Nathan has made quite a few:eek:o_O

From the past experiences, he seems to retire his patterns after ~400 or so units... With the EDC-2, I can safely guesstimate that he has let this little pattern and its tweaks go well over that threshold.

The future is always uncertain. I would guess that even if the EDC2 only has one run, the EDC3 is always possible. I'm already looking forward to it!

Did you note from Nathan's response to Bacon.Luke that prior to EDC-2, there were a couple of tweaks to the EDC already? Either there's a proto-EDC which never saw the light of day in the wild or what is known as EDC-2 is intact the 3rd Gen CPK-EDC ;)

I did.. and after a brief panic, I think he was referring to test blades that were not released.

Plenty of the first build were released.

Yes, the EDC2 is in fact the 3rd revision, but perhaps think of it as the "second generation". ... there was an EDC 1.0, 1.1 and now 2.0...

Most of our patterns see tweaks with each build, but this build was relatively significant. Things like sheaths won't interchange etc.

^ I never noticed the transition from 1.0 to 1.1 and I don't recall you mentioning it or I may have just missed it. Apart from the choice of blade metal (D3V > D2 > 4V) what were the other subtle tweaks?

^ I'd love to hear as well. Perhaps I don't have enough EDCs to notice a difference between them.

EDC3 = a Wharncliffe?

One can hope! That would be enough of a change from the EDC1 to warrant my grabbing of one.

**GASP!!!**

Out of curiosity (OK bust me, super nosiness!!!) as of post # 92, I count about 143~144 EDC-2 units claimed this far. One post is just a copy of Nathan's OP, so I don't know about that one! Further, I expect some folks to add and very few may even withdraw before the payment is due, but over all I think that all ~175 EDC units which Nathan had projected will be more or less spoken for. Some surplus ones may make it to a Friday sale down the road and some may go to Nathan's authorized dealer (Fort Henry Knives if they are still a CPK dealer) but with the heavy demand, may not be a sure thing till Nathan decides to compound on the initially projected number of units.

So what's my point? Those who really want one and don't want to pay the 2ndry market price markups still have their chances.
Considering the number of orders for the antique micarta, supply (or lack, thereof) could result in some cancellations, as well.

I'm not a pre order type of guy. I prefer to buy blades when they are ready to ship instead of paying up front amd waiting.

In Nathan's posts for the HDFK and EDC 2 pre order he says that half the knives made will go towards the pre order and the other half, friday sales.

Looks like Nathan is gonna make a lot of EDC 2's!

Any idea if you'll mark these EDC-2s in some way Nathan?

I've mentioned before that the EDC never went through the prototype stage, which Nate appropriately corrected me on. What I meant was that the initial design/profile went straight into production, unlike the LC and the HDFK, which saw test pieces made whose shapes were then modified/adjusted before production. For an example, the original LC handle is very different from the final version, and that was through feedback and input from Dan Keffeler testing a prototype.
From what I understand, the first version of the EDC was revised with only minor changes to bevel geometry

It's really going to bother me if I go back and see that the bevels are different on my EDCs. Not because of the difference, but because I didn't notice after staring at them and ogling them for so long.

^ IIRC you started hunting and gathering your EDC collection in 2017, correct? If so, chances are that yours will be from that second revision which Nathan had termed as 1.1, unless you bought some from the wild which were much earlier versions. I think my EDC with G10 scales was from the very first Friday sale so chances are that could be a 1.0 with my D2 version being a slightly tweaked one. I can't tell!

I could be wrong but I think that Nathan had purchased a massive amount of that antique micarta. He may very well have enough of that stuff to make antique micarta scales for a good few
patterns yet to come. Don't quote me on this, but I think that those who wanted antique micarta ought to be fine with their requests.

I got all of it they had, which was a good sized pallet. It's pretty but it's a PITA (slabbing it up, book matching, decking and flattening, bonding etc) to process so I don't use it much, but there won't be a shortage here, we're fine.
