CPK EDC2

I just checked out some pics of antique micarta on google images, pretty sweet. The thing that caught my eye was butterscotch micarta, Wow!

Can always count on Nathan the Machinist Nathan the Machinist and @Jo the Machinist to bring the GOOD NEWS!

I think apart from being a PITA as Nathan had stated up in the thread, he also had waited for it to "mature" by way of oxidization to the degree that he felt was suitable to recoup on his investment. Prior to a few months ago when he posted some photos of working with this stuff, everything else he was offering with antique micarta were in limited and sorta special edition batches. I had never seen it being offered en masse till the NASK (HDFK) preorder and then this EDC-2 po.

Thank you for the information Casinostocks! I just edited my order for the dark antique micarta. I am really looking forward to getting this blade. While it's a small knife, it appears to still have enough size to be a real performer. Justin, I'd like to thank you for the pic too. Those scales are just too cool!

I wish that I had chosen some of the vintage for my EDC, those look great Justin!

Woody:

I'm not quite sure if you mean your original EDC or your EDC-2 preorder (I could be wrong, but I didn't notice you partake in the po), so:

IIRC, Nathan had stated that despite the more than subtle tweaks, the handle scales will be interchangeable although the handle scales on the EDC-2 will be a tad thinner. Also, I don't recall that the antique micarta scales an offered option for the 1st Gen EDCs with the exception of the one sale which offered a few with the fancy scales. Case in point, if you are referring to your older EDC and if I understood Nathan correctly regarding the handle scales, you should be able to order the surplus EDC-2 handle scales in antique micarta and put them onto your original EDC. I may also very well do that ;)

Yes Casino, I have a 1st gen EDC and got in on some Shadetree scales so I am happy with those but really like those vintage ones Justin posted. Nathan and crew have really made it easy to personalize each of there current models.

I was hoping maybe I could get an answer in this thread about my preorder for the EDC2 ...

I just wondered if I needed to edit my post to ask if I can get the micarta scales I ordered unbuffed ... or if I needed to wait til I was contacted?

Best to state it in your post first by editing it.

Thanks ... I'll edit my post there ... I thought it might be but didn't want to clutter that thread if it was better to wait.

I have to say all the people on this subforum have been really great to answer questions and help out. Thanks for welcoming a new comer in.

As of a few minutes ago, the EDC2 preorder was almost 150 knives. That means Nathan will be making at least 300 of them since half will be offered in Friday sales. Something tells me there won't be another preorder for quite awhile.

I was just thinking the same thing. Nate may be busier then he ever imagined. :D

I think that the preorder may pretty much saturate most of the planned production and I don't think that there will be an equal amount of them made for the online sales on Friday. Of course I'm just purely guessing but how the NASK (HDFK) online sales and numbers progress may clue us in for the second large scale preorder Nathan has undertaken. That said, I don't think that they sold over 150 HDFKs on the preorder list, but I have not counted!

Nathan stated in the preorder post, actually in bold as well, that half of what he made would go for Friday sales. The only way I see the preorder going down is if people on the preorder list score from the Friday sale. Handle choices for Friday sales I imagine probably will not include the antique micarta since that is a limited item and I can't see Nathan taking scales from someone on the list to give them to someone in a Friday sale.

Only 84 HDFKs were sold on the preorder list if I counted correctly. If we see those by the end of Sept., that would be 5 months from list inception to knives in the customers' hands. Of course Blade was in there as well, but I still think he is going to be busy for quite awhile yet.

Any idea if that is from this same batch of antique micarta. I picked OD green by if the antique micarta looks like that, I think I will change my order.

This is the antique micarta:

You can request solid dark brown or you can request lighter higher contrast and we'll try to match scales to requests.

It will all turn to a dark brown after a few years exposure to light and oxygen, the contrast won't be permanent over extended time.
