Great Eastern Cutlery Availability, Dealers, "Drops", Etc.: A Place for People to Vent

I don't think the Mods want us to go in that direction. No forum rules broken. Just general douche-baggery.

Fair enough, lol.

I'll admit it's petty... But I'd love to put a few people on blast, like the jerk who continuously posts the Spyderco 2018 forum knife for $232 when you can still buy it directly from Spyderco for about $160.

There was some discussion some time ago about putting known flippers on blast here in the GBU and maintaining a list. If I remember correctly, it was frowned on by the staff here for a number of reasons, one of which being that it would likely create a lot more headaches for them. It also creates an environment where all sorts of arbitrary accusations can run amok and it ultimately becomes this big soupy mess that no sane man or woman would ever want to try and sort out.

I don't think there is much keeping anyone away from calling out the more egregious offenders here in the various threads despite them not really breaking any rules (it just flies against the general spirit of things) but I think maintaining a list was axed.

Those are all fair points... And after I thought about it for a bit... I decided I wouldn't like a public list anyways. Basically for all the reasons you noted. Don't want to start any witch hunts. I'll just keep adding names to my private "Do Not Sell" list, lol.

On another note... The Waynorth Lambsfoot in both ebony and jigged bone is available NOW from a vendor I can't mention! Just go through all of Waynorth's dealers and you'll find them!

I can't believe I missed last night's drop. I've refreshed that page hundreds of times and waited to see an email. Never got an email on that one, though I normally get them and have purchased several knives there. This one was a lost cause for me. Usually I've been very fortunate in obtaining what I'm after, so I can't complain too much.

There are nine Waynorth Cutlery dealers. About a month ago I sent a message to all nine dealers about the Waynorth Lamb's Foot.

One is in France and one is in the U.K. so those are out (for U.S. buyers). That leaves us with seven.

Of those seven, two (KSF and TKC) have done "free for all" drops where they make them available for sale on their website and it's first come, first serve. Those sold out in under 3 minutes.

Of the five remaining vendors, one didn't reply to my message at all (JSR). The remaining four (BCC, GSJ, NKC, and CK) do a reserve waitlist and all were basically full long ago.

Is there anything stopping us from compiling a list here in GB&U of people who are known for purchasing limited release knives and flipping them at high profits?

All very true. It would make everything more combative and secretive.

It's also a slippery slope to doxxing. Some of the Facebook groups are pretty much there already.

What a bummer it's making our great hobby very frustrating!! Maybe dealers can do a one knife per
Person but I'm sure that would be a pain in the ass for them?

One per person with an option to get a second one after the first ones are passed out.

I actually hope those sell over there for $350...
Happy for the guy that flipped his,
And Happy for the Guy in that tax bracket that does not care his knife was scalped...

Are we worried some newb is getting ripped off?
People buying $35o knives don’t need looked after, they are obviously doing swell..,

Good point

That is half the problem right there, Taylor. We can bash predatory sellers all day but there is always another half to the equation.
Looks like someone did take the bait on the Jigged Bone. When I first saw the $350, and then was greedy enough to charge for shipping, I had to laugh.

I thought I had something coming, but USPS seems to be playing keep away. Starting to think the package is lost or stolen. If so, now that I have a little more experience with this frenzied fol de rol, I’m hoping for the best, but expecting the worse. First world problems.

Yikes.....

Wow that oily bone looks incredible! Almost like a smooth stag.

One thing I noticed the other day surfing the bay, a GEC distributor put multiple- maybe 15 or so of these knives up for auction. I was very surprised that they could do that and not just sell them to customers for a flat price.

Wow those are some cruel practices. I think I actually saw those I just assumed it was some dude that had a bot which automatically purchased him 12 of the knives. Kind of surprised it doesn't happen more often though since most of the knives will end up there anyway.

I think its a pretty smart business practice. Let the market set the price instead of either A.) Setting it yourself too low and then losing money while some random Joe flips it, or B) setting it too high and having to sit on stock you can't sell.

I mean it's quite obvious the MSRP set by GEC for the #93s are far under what the market actually values them at. And truthfully, if I had to chose between the two, I'd much rather pay a dealer extra than Joe Knife Flipper.
