Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

I always find these language differences fascinating (but don't always remember the distinctions). I don't think I realized that robins are different in UK and USA until Jack's photo!

Lam Jack is my lambsfoot this week:

Me too Gary, I didn't realise our robins were different either :) As in the US, language is also very localised here, which when you first start travelling around, comes as quite a surprise (perhaps less so now because of TV). The most localised word I know of is one they use for a liquor-store in Sheffield, 'Beer-off', I've never heard it used anywhere else, not even in the neighbouring towns

Looks like a healthy repast that Lam Jack is tucking into there :)

Morning Guardians :)
Got up way too early this am.
The cat started roaming around the house at 5:30 am, then parked himself in front of the puppy inside his crate ... puppy got supper excited and started whining and barking ... oh well

My sourdough starter was raring to go too so might as well start another journey with sourdough baking today.
We shall see tonight if I arrive to a decent destination :)

Sorry to hear about the early start Dan, that often happens to me too, particularly in the summer. I'm sure you don't need any luck with your baking, but I'm looking forward to seeing the results my friend :)

Looking good Jack! I'm glad you've had some tolerable weather days. It's been Ark building weather here the last week!

Thanks pal, it's actually turned out nice here again, but so far I haven't had a chance to get out. Probably going to do a bit of shopping later. I hope you get some better weather soon Ron

Good morning Guardians! :) I hope y'all are safe and sound this morning! I'm totin' my Jack Black Special Ebony.

Very nice Ron :)
That’s good Jack! It’s actually tolerable here today. Cool and cloudy, which makes for good outdoor working weather! Speaking of shopping! That’s what Pam is doing now! That really is some fine Ebony isn’t it! A beautiful knife! :)

Good Morning Guardians

Nice pic John :)

Good morning Guardians, Old yellow got out for a picture this morning.

Great to see Rob, what a beauty :)

Ha ha, if my second son would have been born first I think I would have decided to not have any more children. He was quite a challenge.

:D

Nice Ron :) I only got a few things from the supermarket in the end, just some fresh fruit and veg, and an apple pie, I spent well under £10. I have only been in that store first-thing in the morning before, but by the time my delivery arrived, it was about 1.30pm, and a lot of the trust-fund brats who live round there had clearly just managed to drag themselves out of bed o_O You could barely move in there for all the vain 20-something 'men', wandering about using their phones to check their Facebook profiles or 'tweet', not looking where they're going because they're only interested in looking at their own reflections in the glass of the freezer cabinet, or not being able to see because they're wearing shades or can't see past their blond-highlighted fringe (bangs), and dressed like they're headed to the beach o_O I hope Pam fared better ;) Wright's promised the same ebony for the 2018 Guardians knives, but even though that stuff was nice, it wasn't what was promised :(

View attachment 1344248 Good morning, Guardians! Another dark, damp and cool day here, but I have my Lambfoot, so I'll be okay!

Heart-warming Ben ;)

It's a great movie, the more you drink the better chance you'll have to survive!:D:thumbsup:

I could say that about life in general. :D

That's so not cool! I had to go through an antiterrorist driving course in Germany, and just missed an attack at the Commissary in Frankfurt. Got back to the states, and the bombing at the Murrah building by Timothy McVeigh rattled our shop doors, immediately deployed our command post there, and worked there for the whole event. Still don't fully understand it.

Crikey. It sounds like a fair few of us have scrapped through by the skin of our teeth doesn't it.
My brother had the same happen to him as well.

Guardians, I’m curious, what was it that first attracted you to the lambsfoot? When you got your first, what surprised you the most?

If I’m remembering correctly the lambsfoot first blipped on my radar when Jack offered his “I’d rather have a sway back than a bad back” GAW. It didn’t really grab me though, as I had an almost singular focus on whittling knives at that point. It was later when Jack posted his “special horn” A. Wright and @r8shell posted her rosewood on the same day in the totin’ thread that I really took notice and decided to get one for my own.

What surprised me was how versatile a knife it is. Before then I would have sworn that I’d only be satisfied with a multi-blade folder with a clip main, like a stockman or many whittler pattern variations. Yet, here this single, belly-less blade pattern has found its way into my heart and pocket and happily tackles most every task I give it.

How about you?

I'd already owned one for several years. A rosewood Big'un that I bought from Barnitts (a hardware store in York that Jack has mentioned). I was looking for a British made larger slipjoint at the time, and found it in their knife display. I'd never owned a lambsfoot before but had used sheepsfoot knives, but the blade profile played no part in why I chose it. But as I got to using it I found I really liked it.

Good morning Guardians! I’m smiling so big this morning it’s making my jaws sore! :D I’d like to introduce y’all to the newest addition to my Lambsfoot collection! After making several offers back and forth with the seller I was finally able to score this one on the big auction site!

It’s a William Rodgers Sheffield, Horn weeun! :D I really can’t believe how pristine this knife is. It looks like a factory edge. As is common the Horn on the mark side is a little nicer than on the pile side. But both are actually quite nice! It’s probably the stoutest of any I own. It’s a bear trap! I can’t wait to hear from Jack with some comments on possible age, etc. I have been reading some of the comments and history that’s available here. Y’all have a great day and please stay vigilant out there! :D

Great catch Ron, your certainly having some luck with your acquisitions.

I could just train a cat

Don't you have to ask the cat's permission before you try that? :D

Bird watching and yard work and bread baking today. This trusty companion with me again.

That's some yard you have to work there.:D

Just some shots on a local walk the other day which was meant to help my back pain but actually made it a lot worse.

Great shots everyone! I hope everyone's having a good week.

I've been breaking a lot of boxes myself recently, mainly had beer in them  That is quite a pile there though Barrett :)

Barrett, it looks like your Ebony Lambsfoot made short work of all that "Pandemic Packaging"! :D

The Ebony Lambsfoot did a fine job! We’ve certainly been ordering a lot online that we’d usually just run to the store to pick up.

What are the differences between US and UK bacon Barrett? When I lived in France, I couldn't get bacon at all, I think they butcher the pigs differently there, or they did. I guess your brother told you not to mention wearing suspenders here! ;) :D

I hope all's well with you my friend, I know that the arrival of a new baby can be a bit like a whirlwind, but I find that after the first, you're kind of ready for it ;) My second daughter was the least trouble of all of them, she slept more than either of her sisters, still does! :D

American bacon is what you’d call streaky bacon. Your bacon would (I think) be called “back bacon” over here, but to be honest, you can’t really find it anywhere. (Which is a shame, because it’s good! I ate my fair share of bacon butties when we visited England.) :D

I didn’t know about suspenders, but I do now! :D

We’re doing ok. Scout sleeps a lot… right up until about 1 am, when she apparently wants to be awake and angry for several hours.

I always find these language differences fascinating (but don't always remember the distinctions).

I’ve always been interested in this sort of thing, too. (Maybe y’all remember the Dialect Quiz from the Lounge a while back? :D) I’d never heard of a meat raffle or pull-tabs before we moved to Minnesota (both things that usually take place in a bar, coincidentally).

A sunny new day for this Standard with Buffalo Horn covers.

Nice down-to-earth answer David

Great pics David, really sorry your back isn't getting better :( I don't know about you, but I'm beginning to feel like a spell on The Rack might do my back some good! :D

I haven't had any birds land on my head yet, but this Magpie landed three feet in front of me, and started doing 'silly walks'!

The Magpie flew off, and a Robin landed in the same spot. Unfortunately, turning my camera on again disturbed it, and it flew off to gurn at me from the fence, but then returned. I haven't fed them anything yet, and am debating whether I should  Maybe they just think I'm a big, fat, old bird! :D Or maybe they just don't care, maybe after a couple of months of relative tranquility they just see humanity as some strange, marginal species  :D

My Sam Smith's beer tonight is their Pale Ale. I've drunk a fair bit of this in the past. If you want to know what an English Bitter tastes like, you really need to go to an English pub, and taste it on draught. If you don't have that option, Sam Smith's Pale Ale might cause you to reconsider ;) Cheers Guardians
