Gulf Coast Assistance Part Three

OK...Here's what I want to do. Get Roberto Clemente to cough up another book and put my $15.00 on that one. If that doesn't work, ask Slufstuf to accept my apology and put $20.00 on that book, and if that doesn't work be darned sure you can head me in the right direction to get one somewhere else, because slufstuf may come back and stick it in my eye.

Paul

Otay! Well, the retail on the book is $25, and Robert has already donated two. So I would not feel right asking him for another. But Slufstuff will understand if you want to enter a $20 pledge on that book. ANd yes, when all is said and done, I will be glad to point anyone who wants a copy of the book to the source.

Hello Marc

I am 'crumplehorn132'. Funny name I know, but it is the name of the Inn I
owned. I got an e-mail from Delander (thanks) and this from e-bay.

Dear Andrew D Taylor (polperro@sympatico.ca),

Please be aware that the following listing:

has been removed by eBay for violating of one or more of our policies. Any

on the item again if it is relisted.

This was my bid confirmation;

Schrade 507SC HURRICANE FUNDRAISER
Your current bid: US $36.00
Your maximum bid: US $66.00

How about I round it off and pledge $70.00 USD? I love scrimshaw, but feel
free to outbid me :)

Mr. Taylor, That is a very generous bid on your part for the Big Cat Scrimshaw Knife... I see no reason why we need to "relist it" in this forum..... If anybody has any objections, please feel free to share your thoughts...

Andrew, My e-mail addy is drisco@shaw.ca I will expect to hear from you shortly with your mailing address...

Thank you, Marcus ;)

Tremedous efforts on everyone's part.

I need the Schrade Sign! I bid 25 bucks (salvation army) along with my apologies to anyone I am outbidding on it.

Phil

Sorry, "fixer27", but a knife care kit would be just the companion for the knife I'm giving my daughter for Christmas...so I am forced to outbid ya!

$20 on #7 Schrade SK3 Knife Care Kit

Don't worry about it pocketknife it's for a good cause.

And I have until tomorrow to see you and raise you. ;)

I figured you'd understand, fixer!

Hey, Codger, I sent you an email....my computer is showing unhealthy signs the last couple of days, & I think it might crash any moment! So if you need to get ahold of me, or you don't see me on the forum for a bit, it's because the darn machine went into the shop. :(

I'll be back!

Pocketknife, your pledge has been noted and marked, and your address received. Thank you.

And don't be a stranger to this forum. Keep dropping in whenever you get a chance. And be sure to check out the 15OT Deerslayer knife if you have not yet found the large knife you have been looking for. They are a beautiful (in the eyes of this collector) pattern by "Uncle" Henry Baer, and were made for so many years that they are fairly easy to find. The full tang blade lends itself well to customizing with different handle materials too, if you like something other than the brown delrin. This one has a non-standard laser cutout, (most don't) but the pattern can be found in either 1095 Carbon or stainless.

Codger wrote " it lends itself to customizing.." close enough :p

I was somewhat worried about that as i want to modify the handle on the
158OT to make it longer and flashier. I was wondering how the OT purists
would view that sort of thing.

Fixer27

It's your knife, you can do with it as you will.

Except, try to pass it off as a "Schrade Custom". :D

Schrade custom? No sir, it shall be a customized Schrade. :D

The handles on the 158 OT are a little small and I would like to change mine.
And keep the OT (the REAL OT) "fresh". These are great knives at a great
price and they should not be relegated to "collectables" status.

Exactly! I want to lengthen the handle on one of my Schrades, and a custom nickle silver pommel and matching bolster would be just the ticket! IF I have this done, the maker will cartouche and date the pieces, just so there is no misunderstanding in years to come.

I have a small box of Schrade fixed blades awaiting new exotic wood handles. None are mint knives, but that is just my choice. Mint knives would be a lot less trouble to use, not needing to be buffed, but I come across good Old Timer users with missing shields or hammered handles at bargain prices so often, I hate to pass on them. They are certainly not rare enough to restore (few, if any Old Timers are), so customizing is a good way to "recycle" them.

Schrade the US schrades were made in the millions and not to be put on the
shelf or in the safe. (nothing wrong with that though..).

I would like to use a modified 158 OT to dress out a deer and my trout and
bass that I am going to catch. But the handle needs maybe another inch on
it to get leverage on the blade. I want that extra handle length to reflect
my atittude towards the real Schrade products.

So if a 158 OT has a bone handle with a nice shield on it I hope Mr. Schrade
likes the work done on his design.

Nothing like a new set of handles to spice up a knife, especially a user knife.

fixer, I'm curious, how do you plan on extending the handle beyond the end of the tang? That doesn't sound like a simple operation.

Perhaps you are thinking of the blade steel and not the pins in the handle.

The handle can be up to 6 inches long, as long as the pins hold. This is a
question of leverage and the blade is long enough, it is just tied up by a
short handle.

I am thinking about walrus ivory and brass pins actually. And the gutting
hook may need to be reprofiled. (thinner and sharper....)

It's just a suggestion, but rather than going through all that, you might want to consider a knife that's more suitable for your needs and hand size. I have a Schrade XT3B and it's a great user knife that's very comfortable in my large hands. It also says Schrade on the blade.

In this case, I plan on eschwing the norm. Yes I can find a simpler knife that
will do the same job.
But think about it for a minute. a great US company that many have traded
for cheap imports suddenly becomes a great looking and serious field knife.

and you cannot put bone handles on that kraton infected knife.
