Spyderco Manix 2 xl (lock strength)

I just took a look at a manix2 XL two nights ago. It was carried by a guy in town that just got back from his third or fourth deployment. This is the knife he took on his last deployment. If he had handed me the knife and it had looked unused or barely used I wouldn't be commenting. The knife looked well used. That combined with his comment, "It's a good knife!" - is worth more to me than youtube abuse videos.

*Sarcasm alert* Unless he knifed apart a dozen Taliban--and the Hiluxes they rode in on--the M2XL has yet to be proven ... ;)

The polymer cage is a new (I'm guessing unique) direction.

I hate it when I'm proved wrong, maybe because it happens so often. Here's a very informative link about polymer (PEEK) cages for ball bearings, used for what we can only describe as extreme industrial use since the '80s.

I don't know if there are different polyethetherketones out there, if the PEEK in this article is the same as that used for Spydie's CBBL. If Spydie's material is in the same ballpark, then yes, Sal has correctly objected to dismissing the CBBL polymer as a common plastic.

I think that if you give me any knife, folder or fixed, and let me abuse it I can break it. That being said, if you use the knife as intended for cutting or puncturing I think any will hold up perfectly fine (especially those made by the Spyderco wizards).

I am a big fan of the Manix 2 XL carbon fiber S90v. Here are some good videos about the manix 2 xl.
