The unofficial, non binding, carries no weight, 2020 forum knife possibility discussion thread

I know I've penned many different analogical versions of the creation process of the BF trad forum knife over the years....and found myself to be most amusing...We've had Frankenstein, The Romans, Adventures on the High Seas...that was a beauty where we went in against the bucckaneers from the Buck sub forum and marauded the prized 2018 Buck knife.....but I still cant figure out...how we get from the "i want a purple ramshorn queen country cousin or else I'm not playing!" phase to a plan with polls and people willing to take the helm....One could almost call it an immaculate conception....one minute nothing in concrete...nek minute staring down the barrel of real choices.
Its a crazy old world.
now, wait just a minute, my other-side-of-the-world-brother-from-another-mother..... nobody is trying to take any helm, or stern, or any other nautical thang... this is just simply mental exercise... just for kicks...

but the purple ramshorn sounds sort of cute...

I don't know if anyone suggested this yet, but if they are making a club knife on the 23 for OKC, and seeing how we have piggy backed with other club knives in the past, a 23 makes sense. Now here is where we, BF, could really stand out. I know this is not for everyone, not even my favorite set up, but the stars seem to be aligning for a knife that hasn't been produced since the 90's and was sold in huge quantities by Camillus. How about a replica of the Camillus 716 pattern on the 23 gec? It probably wouldn't ever be built again, unless asked for. A double lockback large trapper. Again, not my favorite, but the opportunity seems to be ripe. A locking drop point and bulbous spey/skinner.

Much as I'd love a 2-blade locking 23 or a Whaler, the price limit of $100 might be a problem. Maybe with plain trim and an inexpensive cover material?

Ah didn’t realize there was a 100 dollar limit.

They did and I believe they said never again. They felt it was too hard on their equipment.
Hmmm.. ok. I didn't know that. The one GEC stainless I have has some other name stamped on the tang of the blade... I just assumed they farmed out the blades to someone else, and did all the other work in house. If that is the case, I don't see how stainless would be too hard on their equipment.. but, I'm not a GEC cutler, and I don't play one on TV....:D

Since opinel was mentioned, how about mc cognet? A bf vendetta or douk? Maybe I missed it, but I thought I'd read all of this thread

I think GEC from time to time does some 440C blades and the never again IIRC was a time they tried a fancier stainless I know they don't often to runs in 440C but I don't think it is an off limits steel.

I think that the $92 was with the optional sheath which was a $8-$10 add-on so let’s call it $85 for the knife.

I have seen some nice patterns listed I know for me these are some patterns I want to add to my collection.

Small Sunfish/Elephant Toe
Doctors w/ spatula blade
Peanut
Whittler

There are more some wishes are more about blade/tool combinations than the pattern they are put into.

2019 GEC- was $92
2018 Buck- was $71
I don't know about the optional slip in 2018 as I didn't get one.

maybe not 2020, but sometime soon, $100 isn’t going to buy much...... probably will need to bump limit to 125 or 150.

A two blade folder with one stainless and one carbon blade would be really fun and useful.

A mini trapper with a stainless clip and carbon spey? And desert ironwood.
