Forum Knife Updates and comments

It is weird that makers don’t just use the year.
I wonder why the stars and asterisks and other odd marks?! Easier than 4 numbers that had to be changed each year?

Kinda like buck and the ever morphing date symbol on the blade. Why not just use the year? Seems very strange to me!

My assumption, (someone please correct me if I'm mistaken) is that Case used the ten dot system because they could grind off one dot each year. This way they can get ten years of use out of one stamp. I don't know how much it costs to make a stamp, but this would save money on tooling new ones every year.

As far as Trad forum porcher knives go I wonder why the very first one and thanks for the info @yablonowitz ,wasn't simply #1.
And then #2 etc etc.
Maybe no body dreamed there would be a #2.?

Grinding a dot off each year was the original idea, as Rachel sez!!
New stamps were made if the size wasn't right.

In the early 80's Case did stamp tangs with the year. I read collectors didn't like it so they switched back to dots. Don't know if that is the reason Case switched back to dots because that info was gleaned from the WWW but they did in fact return to using the dot system.:)

Anyone have a idea or heard when these will be completed and start shipping ?

That FFG is EXACTLY what I hoped it would be. This is gonna be a nice knife.

Still learning this stuff... is the grinding of the blades done before or after the heat treatment?
