Wow, learn a new thing everyday! Never had heard of Ambush Knives and just a quick research, they are certainly imitating Survive! Thanks for the info F_D as I now know what to stay away from

Manufactured by Bark River, they sell in similar fashion... don't ever pay the price on the box. It's the same product pricing model. And yes, if they didn't directly copy Survive, they were sure "inspired" by Guy.

I didn't know that either but now I understand as to why their stock photos look so similar to the Bark Rivers stock photos! At the expense of ruffling some feathers with Barkie owners, I never cared for Bark Rivers knives because I do tend to do quite a bit of research on the Internet to see as to whom I am doing business with and let's just say that there are rampant rumors. Not trying to stir merde but, oh I forgot what! Same sorta stuff I also found out about the DPx guy whose Co is actually in the County I reside in. Well, too bad.

Feels fantastic! Like a satin yet not at all gritty texture that locks into my hand..

Here is a comparison against my gso 5.1 non micro textured. One thing I found out is the micro texturing reflects no light and looks completely matt.. and will appear darker then the non microtexturing

Regarding Bark River.. I have a collection of "Barkies". Great knives but apples and oranges to SK!. Barkies are totaly hand ground both blade and handle so more custom then SK, but that also opens up more inconsistency and QC variances. And they are set up for large volume production with Groups of people working at various stations.. I have Barkies because of I do like the convex edge for some things.. To my knowledge however, SK is the literaly the best in the world for fit, finish and edge.. I don't think even the busses can compare to SK.. but that's me.

I have a handful of Barkies for the same reason... but I almost never use most of them. They're fine for what they are. At least they brought their own designs go production.

I went with this same handle choice on mine... both in CPM-3v.

i went with this combo for my 4.5 the 5.1, 4.7, and delta 5.1 i went with tumbled hardware. i always intend to try out other colors but i can never commit, the camo g10 just looks too damn good.

Ambush knives are fine for what they are. There was a time Guy had BRKT make knives for Survive.

Ambush, Northwoods, and a host of other brands from KSF & DLT serve a very large demo in the industry and I wish them all the best.

They by no means cheapen what Guy is doing in the slightest.

As they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

S!K borrows from other makers and companies in both design and business model, and others from him. It's how we progress as a species. It's why we have civilization. Competition.

Just to clarify, BRKT was hired by one of Guy's vendors to grind about 150 prototypes before Guy actually had his own grinder. The handles, sheaths, and packaging were all done by other entities. Originally, Guy thought he could be a designer and let others make the knives for him. Later, his "last ditch effort" was to buy a grinder to see if he could make them himself.

Thanks for the clarification Ellie. The more accurate info the better.

I am glad among many others here I'm sure that he decided to make them himself.

To say that bark river copied survive knives is like saying that Guy copied Busse
Knives all have a blade and a handle and they sure all look rather similar
Ambush knives are fine knives (and available)
Survive knives are also excellent but difficult to buy

Now we all know the actual reasons Survive has slipped some time targets! What's that, like $5K worth of cutlery there? Nice pile of metal, man.

LOL!! Not, sure how much it is and don't want to know! But thanks!

Now, as Ellie the human (not the SURVIVE! employee), I have to say that I think you chose the wrong “set of excuses” to make your point. I’ve given my life to this company and the one time my life needs me elsewhere it leads to a snide remark. It is disappointing, to say the least.

I don't know if this comment is directed at me but I can tell you that this is not a personal issue for me. I'm sure you're a very nice person and I say that sincerely.

I see my relationship with Survive as a business one. Other people talk about "Guy and Ellie" like you are old friends which has advantages and disadvantages. They put up with more that they would from any other product or service provider. On the other hand you've become very personally involved to the point of telling us about personal family matters. That puts you in a position to be offended on a personal level.

There are many, many, small business owners who give their life to their company. Your situation is not unique.

All I can say is how stinking awesome this 4.7 is, and how amazed I am at Guy and Ellie's generosity that led me to being able to own it (I'm the lucky so-n-so that won the raffle that chiral.grolim did for their wedding gift.

So last week I came to the end of my rope with another vendor on line who sold me some knife handle materials and, after running around in circles with this guy for 6 weeks, I finally demanded money back. Thankfully, there was some little voice in the back of my head that reminded me to be polite. What followed was a hearfelt explanation on his part, and me giving him the chance to work out the details. But more importantly, I got to know a really cool guy who knows a ton about knife making and whom I now consider a friend. I'm so thankful that we came together on a resolution that helped us both out. That is the reason I am involved in the knife community, in general, and the S!K community specifically, and especially with Ellie and Guy. They certainly don't know me at all, but they are present and generous, and pay me a complement on a set of handles or a silly little folding Necker. I love that.

So, if I may offer a simple suggestion based on my repeated experiences here and elsewhere... instead of griping and complaining, get to know the person on the other side of the "transaction" and build a relationship instead. It makes the wait so much more enjoyable. You will get your knife eventually, but you may also make some friends.

This is something some people who've loudly identified themselves above will not bother to understand. It's what I referred to when I said
because we have found more in Survive than merely superior products.

There are those who would clearly rather label delays as
... the latest round of excuses ...
without regard for the people... like Ellie the person, not the employee. There are those unfortunately who are not here for what you describe as "friends." There are those who just want a cheap trick. They aren't looking for relationship. And they're welcome to fly away... or suck it up and wait their turn... while they play with their Moras and Esees.

Bravo, TRfromMT. Well said, sir. Glad you're in this community.

F_D: But shouldn't the same set of principles and standards apply to the demand side of the fence too? Isn't it prudent for those of us who do not know the real plight of others, to not just swat them away and to not reject them as mere malcontents and troublemakers?

El-C was in the wrong by copying and pasting Ellie's comments which were made on another thread and then he followed it up by what i deemed to be coarse titled, "more excuses" or something to that effect. However, in your last few posts you belittled ESEE and Mora
owners as somehow inferior which unfortunately makes us Survivors! come across as blade snobs and elitist. Why not welcome those folks too and remind them that patience is truly a virtue and their patience will be rewarded by Survive! I have no bones to pick with you
although I am one of those Johnny-come-lately types. I never thought that your initial comments were pointed at me and I also hope that you do not construe my comments as an affront to you. I just want someone who scratched enough and let's say his hard earned $199
to preorder a GSO to feel welcomed on here as much as most of us who have, can and will order 5-10 GSO down the road. Let's calm the nervous nerves and people like you who own a bunch of these already can be a good mentor by just keeping to tell the newbies as to
why it is so worth it to wait for their GSOs and to not lose their place in line by panicking and cancelling their orders.

Thank you Casino. Thank you very much.

Personally attacking someone cannot be justified because one perceived that the person in question made a personal attack.

Makes me think of parents who hit their children as punishment for their child hitting. The forum is no place to relive your childhood trauma, or bully and belittle frustrated Survive! fans.
