Home Defense kukri

Here's a no-frills Uncle Bill Especiale (UBE) by Sher Kami. No engravings. Satin finish. 18" OAL, 33 oz, a beast with a spine about 1/2" thick. This one definitely has that intimidation factor.

I agree with those who have said that in cramped quarters smaller works better, but if you want to scare someone off, this will do it. Although, you being 6'5", 295lbs, maybe just standing up will be enough.

Sirupati or gelbu special-my preference is the gelbu. Training is waaayy more important than the style of khuk, as long as the shape supports the strikes you train and you can handle the weight of your chosen blade.

Ultimate Fighter with chiruwa (pinned) handles made light and reasonably long. I always love the back cut option in fighting blades and the design in the UF model should stab well.

when i lived in baytown, tx. there was a rapist going around breaking into apartments and raping women. i was in the reserves and spent the occasional night away from home. the wife had her ss s&w .357 in the nightstand next to her side. i had .45 colt mk IV series 70 in a shoulder rig draped over the headboard. under the bed there was a police riot 12 ga. pump with it's extended mag tube pattern loaded with bird shot, then oo buck, then sabotted slugs, in case things got serious. there was a ss .38 snubby in the drawer my side along with an 8in. bowie (it was in my pre-khuk days). i also had a tomahawk leaning against the nightstand.

anyway, one night in our complex, the rapist struck. old lady (well, old to me then, nbot so old now) in a ground floor flat. she heard him breaking in & fired 3 rounds thru the door & hit the perp in the legs. police arrived presently. perp writhing in agony on the porch. old lady standing over him with her rifle. he picked the perp up by the belt and threw him thru the door and gave him a little kick of encouragement, telling him "she shot you as you came thru the door, didn't she?" after another kick or two he agreed. ambulance arrived, took him away. cop told her that if this ever happened again to wait till he crossed the threshold into her apartment, or drag the body inside before the cops arrived. no more rapes for a long while. definitely no more ever in our complex.

anyhow that i live in a gun-free zone* i now have a fondness for my nepai bowie knife that inspired the HI version. it lives near me at night.

it's also next to my 20" HI Kobra. i'm spoiled for choice. :)

i can also always use my samoan club to tidy up any leftovers (the spike on the back is for carrying severed heads (it's poked thru the top knot of hair) after the battle.
42 in. of heavy palm wood

* gun free zone - an area where it is illegal to defend yourself except in extreme circumstances and only crooks and cops have firearms.

Cul4u01, I must ask if the bashpati fails to deter the intruder do you play them a tune on the flute and that sends them running? hehe

Wow that club is something else, I would hate for angry samoan(or an angry Kronckew for that matter) to be after me with that. Very nice indeed

FYI Kronckew...I think the supreme court ruled that in the "home" it is unconstitutional to have a "gunfree" zone. Both Boston and D.C's bans have been repealed. They also ruled in is unconstitutional to force trigger lock in the home requirements. Your home is your home... I feel your pain. I live outside Boston Ma and its a pain in the ass to do anything with a gun. They require either a trigger lock or the gun taken apart. This law has been ruled null and void by the precedent set by the supreme court although no one has said its void. I would suspect you could challenge any of those laws in court and actually win. We do live by common law and precedent has been set. Many of these useless laws are being repealed or overturned.

Oh and I loveeeeeee series 70 colts. I much prefer that design to the firing pin block. The Swartz safety makes the beavertail trip the block on newer S&W1911's. I made sure I bought a new "E" series Smith that doesn't have any block. It is a standard series 70 affair with a titanium firing pin and heavy spring. I guess its more effective than a pin block if the pistol is dropped. There is no chance of accidental discharge with a titanium pin and heavy spring. I always carry my 1911's cock and locked and its nice to have that little extra titanium insurance policy... I love colts too, I have a series 70 gold cup that is built right. I don't like the newer colts or the "1991's" I find their fit and finish horrible. Most of the ones I see are rattle boxes with lose slides and horrible lock up. They install the wrong link pin and don't even bother to fix it. Colt's quality has gone wayyyy done hill in recent years but they still catch a pretty penny and there is nothing that retains or gains in value like a Colt. I am a 1911 NUT lol

Oh by the way that is a gorgeous club, I mean just gorgeous...

That club would be hard to clean lol-beautiful piece of wood work.
It's probably worth noting that home defense with a blade won't be a "dueling" scenario-you have a knife, he has a knife seems less likely than "suprise! Get outta my house!" THWACK....
As long as you can handle the weight get whatcha like-not like you can own just one HI anyway lol.
Interesting about the grip safety tripping the firing pin block-that's a good solution.
I've had the lightweight pin/heavy spring setup for 20 years and it works-heck only time the old system didn't was hammer down on a live round, which always seemed like asking for trouble on several levels.

If I play the flute, the whole block is going to scatter, no need to worry, the bashpati isn't much for determent, I'm more of a user...:)

sadly gurkah berserkah, i live in the UK where the sheeple don't even allow most of the police to go armed.

the armed 'swat' types are not know for their target discrimination, having shot an unarmed mentally retarded youth carrying a table leg who did not understand 'put down the gun!" and a blind partially deaf man with a white cane who again did'nt understand who they wanted someone to 'put down that sword', at least they just tasered that one. six times. he was 80.

another one that caused riots when they shot a minority community leader (with an admittedly dodgy past) who reportedly had just bought a gun. six of them opened up on him when he got out of the car. seems one cop's mp5 accidentally discharged and hit another cop so they all opened fire on the perp who was (unarmed) shooting at them. only hit him 20 times. (the hit cop had a bulletproof vest on & was only bruised) two years on after being whitewashed by internal investigations, they had an independent one that found the cops had planted a gun on the grass 7 meters away to justify the shooting. they may now even get their wrists slapped and lose a week or two's pay.

a lady was attacked by a burglar in her home, and stabbed a few times. she managed to call the emergency number (911 here) and the police arrived a few minutes after the perp left. they refused to go in in case they might get hurt. health and safety. they waited two hours while the lady bled to death on the phone trying to get them to believe her that the perp had left a long time ago.

a policewoman chasing after a man who had just robbed a 7-11 type store tripped on a curb, twisted her ankle, and took off work for 6 months with pay, sued the store manager & the store chain, the gasoline company that supplied their gasoline, the electric company who powered the lighting, the archtect that designed the paving, and a few more. (she didn't get very far with the suit & left the police. she's now on welfare)

most cops are honest, but limited by the silly laws that leave them no discretion. got a souvenir switchblade keychain knife with a dull half inch blade? teo years in jail for carrying a lockable knife without acceptable justification, and a switchblade to boot. and a fine.

rob and beat a store owner, you might get a community service order or a suspended sentence if it's only a third offence or less. murderers have just been told that a life sentence (hard to get unless you are a mass murderer and a paedophile) or butcher an off duty soldier while monitored by cctv and with a hundred witnesses, and then attack police with the same knife you just sawed off the guys head with on the evening news. the EU court of human rights said he must be offered the opportunity for parole. wonderful world we live in. luckily infrequent examples, but telling.

all-in-all, remember that, as the saying goes, when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

some more club porn. a fijian war club, 30 inches, native hard wood.the inner curve is serrated. bit easier to handle than the other one.

p.s. - if we restrict ourselves to HI khukuris, i prefer the m43.

I can't imagine a gun guy moving to an environment such as yours.

I don't even go to ball games or concerts anymore since they start metal detecting and turning folks into sheep before they can attend. Not a big deal I'd rather stay home anyhow.

yeah, I live as a recluse and only dwell on my property--I will never give up my guns-- but if I had too, I would get some kickass clubs like those.

Which HI kukri do you think is best for home defense? I have heard some of HI's kukris are monsters and they are hard to get a second or third swing. The kobra's seem to be the lightest and fastest but do you think a sirupati with an 18in blade would be good?

I am rather tall and have a really strong grip (6'5 295lbs). I am wondering if any of you t lhink the 18 sirupati was a good choice? Is it light enough for a second or third strike? I always have my 1911 .45acp in the night stand if the kukri isn't up to the task :friendly_wink:

Sorry I have to disagree with most posts, with your size the 18" siru will work great, but the approx 15" kvluk is great too. 19oz on it. Anything in between will be good. The 18" is fine for hallways, most all martial arts is defensive (blocking), the added length is a bonus for thrusts. The boomerang shape is better for capturing and controlling a bat ot pipe shaped object (most everything really), and swinging or extending away from yourself can leave you exposed or of balance. Using the opponents energy against him rather than tiring or exposing yourself. The huge steel will be of benefit absorbing the blow, the curve will further change the angle and lessen felt impact. If they thrust bare flesh into the blade, they have crippled themself. Detailed study and you'll learn to advance into the attack, preventing the build up of momentum, far better to absorb a blow near their hands than the end of a bat. Far enough forward and the swing their hands directly onto the blade. Of course early study you'll learn to back up and avoid the swing.

Any swinging on your part should be limited to light, snappy chops, straight up and down. So the blade remains between you and the attacker, if they charge they impale themself. Also quick stabbing motions, it will at least create distance. For all of the above even the 18" would work. Honestly, I would change the technique much in an open room. Leave that for the masters and movies

While, a gun is always a first choice, we must prepare that it becomes a pore club at the worst time. It is easier to defend in court if felon is on the attack and you merely blocked it. Hardly a concerning the dark, but it is also much safer for you. Less chance of overextending and leaving yourself vulnerable. WARNING, you can spend years to master just the basics. I doubt any of us would attempt this lightly, or if other options were available. The positive side is that when you have the basics, it works with sticks, knives or bare handed.

If I can just hit my target once with my club its lights out for sure! It aint as pretty as yours tho Kronck:D
