Like me, lawfor? You're the one who's been cheated. This forum is for spreading the word. Your call, not the kibitzers'.

Keep on keeping on.

Yes, sir. Thanks brother. I fully intend to. I've had my fill of this jerk and won't let this simply go away.

If he needed the money so bad he shouldn't be getting a Rolex for his pops, himself or anyone for that matter, despite that no one should make empty promises or not make up for things immediately, sorry you had to deal with that, I would have lost my mind

Hi.

I'm fairly new here.

I mostly read but never interact on this forum.

I'm a noob knife guy. Having not spent more than... maybe $300 on a single knife and all of them being production. I have owned Emersons, Striders, Hinderers and Chris Reeve knives as well as bunch of other lower end knives. Currently have dwindled down to 100% CRK.

Why the heck would I lead this post with all that?

Because production knives are a gateway drug to the stronger drugs such as custom knives. It's not a large step, like my good friend tacticalbacon once told me, to jump from buying $300 knives to buying customs well into the thousands.

I have been looking around and man, Dustin's knives looked awesome. But I now will never even consider his knives after seeing this thread yesterday and reading every single post and hoping for a positive outcome.

OP you are achieving your goal. You have brought awareness to this noob knife guy. I will not support this maker now or ever.

Integrity, in the form of our word, is all we have in this world folks.

Sorry this happened and I hope it gets resolved in your favor soon.

I don't care what you do for a living. You've already tarnished his reputation, so you've earned a medal for that. However, at this point, I'm not sure what we are accomplishing here anymore besides beating a dead horse.

20+ pages of the same stuff, now featuring Jim Skelton! Sounds like an opera to me, and not a course of action.

There actually has been quite a bit of action, a profound impact, and getting the word out to the knife community. No one has to read this thread; they can skip it if it does not interest them. Obviously, the vast majority of members here are very interested in this situation. We all support the OP in his efforts to be made whole and warn others. Besides, he is only one of many of Turpin's victims. That is why this forum section exists.

Welcome Sose! Glad you posted this bro. Also glad your money is still in your pocket! Check out some of the custom makers here.......your wallet will look anorexic, but you'll definitely get what you paid for!
Here is reason enough to keep this thread alive. 1 less victim and I'm sure Dale would be pleased!

I think this thread will eventually be epic . As in a warning to any maker that even has the thought of taking from a customer again . Look at all the times something like this has happened .

If other makers see this thread and see just what could happen if you take someone's money or property and don't come through on your end what could happen.

Lawfor I for one applaud you for keeping cool and planning your next move rather than post after post of rage (which you have every right to do also) If anything this thread can show just how patient you've been. Maybe when this gets resolved it can be a sticky with the title of something like everything knife makers should NOT do to their customers ?

^ This post, is a perfect example why you keep a thread like at the forefront! If not for this thread, & Google search, Dustin Turpin would be flying under the radar, stealing from other unknowing future victims!

Welcome to BF, Sose!

^ Absolutely G! Thankfully due to this thread, & the lightning speed of the internet...information like this travels instantly, & will reach practically every new person who researches D.T. knives. Dustin is aware of this, & I'd be willing to bet that he's feeling rattled & humiliated, in the present!

I for one really appreciate this thread, and others like it. If not to both discuss knives AND support each other in our shared hobby, (whether propping a victim or warning others about a predator), why else are we here. Ok, knife porn too... I get that. [emoji56]

But to be honest, I don't think I've read another GBU thread that has had a victim OP that has been as patient, professional, and kept the thread on track as much as this one. And I don't think anyone here wants to ruin anyone that supports the knife community.

Honest and fair resolution was all that was asked for. But someone within the community that cannot (or will not) give that, does not support the community, and should be called out, maybe even in a big way. They should not be allowed to victimize other non-suspecting knife knuts, if it can be avoided.

Kudos to lawfor for his professionalism. I'm still hoping for a positive outcome. Public pressure is usually an effective source of action as well as service. But if not, at least he was willing to put his mistaken trust in man out there, for our benefit as much as his own. Unfortunately we all benefit from his loss.

Wishing for the best.

If this thread was not working then http://turpin-knives.com/ would not be under construction.
Instagram would not be saying "IT NEEDS TO STOP" and is now private.
Facebook is empty.
and this thread is #2 on google search.

If this is not making a difference to Dustin then i don't know what is, I have to say Business for Dustin is taking more than a bit of a down turn.

Keep it up Lawfor you have more supporters for doing this than haters.

Dale, man, how in the world did I miss this 20-page gem? Guess it doesn't help that I'm not actively on IG. Anyway, thank you for bringing this to the fore and I have no doubt you have done your level best to keep this as factual, and to the letter, as possible. I'm disappointed and shocked in Dustin's behavior to say the very least. I honestly thought he was better than this.

I am so sorry for what you have gone through and are still trying to resolve. I hope Dustin IMMEDIATELY sets aside his guilt, pride, embarrassment, and just picks up his phone and calls you personally. Brother, your patience and transparency is to be admired. As for Jim being involved to whatever degree, I agree with you wholeheartedly. I have every confidence Jim was, to a small degree, only trying to assist both parties. Bottom line, it's unfortunate that Dustin did not do the right thing from the get-go but that ship has sailed. It is fairly clear that his reputation and business are now clearly tarnished (secondary $$$ and demand are dropping daily) and this was entirely avoidable if he had only acted with integrity in all business deals/agreements. This is too bad because he is one helluva talented knife maker (who, BTW, was very nice to me 2+ years ago). I hope Dustin resolves this for you ASAP and gets back on track to reestablishing a more positive reputation and work ethic. This includes making things right with those (of the selected 25) still waiting on their knives promised by a prompt return of their $100 deposit--and personal apologies. If Dustin truly needs counseling/mental help, then he should get it, but there is no longer any excuse good enough for his repeated and lengthy delays. Keeping his word should always be a man's top priority, I don't care who you are or think you are.

I'll now be following this thread and hope it ends appropriately for you... and SOON. You're a good man, Dale. Call anytime.

~ Rob

Dale, you have my 100% support regardless of any dissenters. You have done a service to the community (collectors and makers alike) by bringing this up--I'm sure that was a tough but necessary choice. Having read this thread for the first time today (all 20+ pages), many, many others feel the exact same, and as I also read, makers included. We are not talking about a cheap trinket when you pay someone for products with a Rolex... this is serious business, and by no means a soap opera. If you had not voiced your situation publicly (after being as patient as any person could), very few would have ever known to steer clear of Turpin Knives. Dustin's behavior--and it continues still--not only tarnishes his reputation but also the entirety of the knife-making community. Keep plugging away, Dale, and if you or the BladeForums mods choose to close this thread, so be it... but no one else gets to make that decision.

^^ You are without a doubt, one of the classiest member's, & nicest people that I've been fortunate to meet here, Rob. Your 2 above posts, are a direct reflection of the type of person you are, & why this brotherhood with certain people here, is so special! :)

Keep on keeping on.

^ ^ The knife community as a whole, has absolutely benefited from the OP misfortune!

Thanks very much guys. The support means a lot.

^ I really do have a good feeling that D.T. will come to realize, that he has 1 of 2 choices:

1. Either make you whole

OR

2. Find a new profession

No doubt in my mind!

So, do we compile a list of shows we know he has attended? If we can predict where he is likely to show up the event organizers can be warned.

I am stunned that this has not been resolved . It was a act of malicious thievery on Dustins part and if it were me i would make the knives and hand deliver them and ask if you could forgive my unethical treatment of you . I mean what is the hold up at this point . Is he just being stuborn ? Possibly blaming you for his own actions ? I Just dont understand why this is not over . Some of the folder makers reach a rock star status and they probably think people will be on there side no matter what ... This is not one of those cases . Then on top of this he goes on IG and just has a childish fit about all the preasure. Guys like this should be shamed . Good Luck with this one ... Man what a jerk
